Lisbon Laser Dialogues

In this first entitled “The Future of Laser and Imaging Diagnostics, Collaboration, Conferences, and AI”, we want to bring our community together for an informal roundtable on the future of experimental research in fluid dynamics.

Rather than another technical lecture on Thursday morning after the coffee break, this session will be a shared reflection with experienced researchers on how laser and imaging diagnostics, scientific collaboration, conferences, and artificial intelligence may shape the next decade of our field. Interaction with the audience is warmly encouraged, and questions will be welcome throughout the discussion.

The discussion will open by looking back at what has changed most in experimental fluid mechanics over the last 20 years, before turning to questions such as: What will AI change, and not change? How can we build trust in increasingly complex measurements? How can our community collaborate more effectively? And what should conferences become in the future?

The session will close with advice for young researchers entering the field today.

We warmly invite all participants to join us for this final community moment of the Symposium.
